Penguin Robot

Hello I have just finished the assembly of my first penguin robot, I have done all the calibrations, and also the test all has turned out alright.· But I seem to have missed something, I loaded up the Penguin-AutonomousNavigation-v1.2.bpx program, which seems to work fine as long as the penguin is plugged into the USB. But if I turn him off and remove the USB he just stands there and does not load up the software???· I plug the usb back in and he will start doing the program again?·· I am use to a boe bot, is there something I must do to save to the penguin before I disconnect him from the computer?

Regards,

Patman

Hmmm just ran the "batman" battery test, and I think I have found the proglem it is a new kit, but I guess it sat too long on the shelf for the battries are showing up bad.

    Replace the batteries.
Does your Penguin Motherboard have two expansion ports?
(a three pin black connector, one by the display, one in front)

    Hello Humanoido,

It only has one expansion port by the front just behind IR sensor

Okay update, I have installed new battires and I am getting just over 6 volts from them using a multimeter, so I know the battires are good, I have tried serveral of your programs all of them work great as long as the penguin is plugged into the usb port connected to the computer. If you remove the usb cable from the robot it will come on the LED will light up showing power and the servos will activate some normally moving him to bad posture, even though I have run the center and calibrate program and centered them several times. I even tried just leaving the usb cable plugged into robot but removed from pc, same result. I supplied 6 volts 500ma from my bench power supply with same results as above. All programs work fine as long as he is plugged in with the USB cord, infact you can turn him on then plug the usb in and he will start to run the program and work.

It sound like the board needs a simple fix with a resistor and small piece of wire. Check with Parallax for details.

Yes I see that now from the post about discontinued penguins, I called Parallax and they are suppose to be sending me a new pcb with the fix. Is there any place with this fix posted? I mean I have the equipment to do the piggy back resistor and jumper wire fix if I knew where it needed to be placed?

I don't see where Parallax has posted the fix. Maybe they didn't post it yet. If you want to get a head start on fixing your board, contact the PRS Penguin Robot Society and we'll give you details.
