Boe Bot : Parallel Parking

Hi

I have this video on you tube where a boe bot is programmed to parallel park.
Check this link:

Can somebody help me out with this. I dont understand how it has been done. I know they have used IR LED/Detectors. Is there anything else they might have used? Also, what routines need to have in order to park it parallel?

Please help...

Thanks

Hi, I'm pretty new to the Boe-Bot but it looks to me like they programmed the Boe-Bot to travel that length of road following the curves and then to stop and maneuver. I didn't see any sensors

Without sensors it could not follow the curve. Sticking off the front it looked like there was perhaps an IR sensor watching for a space between two cars. It would not be difficult to calculate based on time the space available to back into. I'm sure the backup motion was pre-programmed, but if the sensors are doing their job that is expected.

The video shows a wonderful effort, but note that a BoeBot is a differential drive robot which can pivot in place. As such, programming it to parallel park is considerably easier than a robot with Ackerman (car-type) steering.

Parallel parking has always been hard for me. Maybe I should start driving a tank.

    Or a 1933 Dymaxion! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlLZE23EJKs&feature=related

Car & robot builders, take note of this vehicle's amazing maneuverability.

The 'bot in the video looks like it could sense the edge of the poster-board. I'm whether this is done through "line-sensing" or edge/distance detection, but I think it's the former wink.gif
