For those of you·not familiar with fritzing here is a video about it.

I wonder if we'll get the board of education, like the have for the arduino. Maybe someone from parallax can shed some light on it. Maybe if we all wish hard enough we can get a professional boards as well.

eod_punk, what you see was our first effort from Fritzing. We worked with them and chose to feature the Propeller with their PCB layout and breadboard program. It's an open-source effort.

Our next step with Fritzing is based on what our customers want us to do. So, would you like to see some projects done with Propeller in the Fritzing environment, or something like a whole USB-BOE or Prop Proto Board put together in their environment? You tell us and I'll make it happen.

I just downloaded Fritzing and played around for a few minutes.

    Wow.

Schematic, PC board and virtual breadboard - all linked.

Looks very promising. Thanks for the link.

Being that Parallax is mainly focused on education I would say a BOE, and the next project of the week or the next project Jessica does for the youtube channel you can try out showing off a Fritz layout and see what everyone thinks of it. Maybe keep it small just to get it out and get feedback.

I also think down the road having one or both of the professional boards would be nice to show off in Fritz and to show off something the the Arduino crowd doesn't have.

    Fritzing: GOOD
    On the Fritz: BAD

    Great post, thanks.

As I've been teaching a "Beginners: BASIC Build a Robot" class to small children K-8 I can only think that this Fritzing project is perfect for helping me teach these small children how to wire up simple electronic circuits and test them. http://www.brainless.org/OB&GC/

I'm currently using Parallax.com HomeWork Boards and BOEs and it would be much easier to teach with an virtual BOE and/or HomeWork Board layout in the Fritzing program. Then when the kids get it right they would use their Fritzing layout as a guide to wiring up a real BOE and/or HomeWork Board.

Adding the BOE and HomeWork Board and the Propeller boards to the breadboards available in the Fritzing program would be awesome and make the learning curve much more affordable to more people.

I also want to see these as functional boards in the Fritzing program ... e.g., if I connect a LED to P5 and a servo motor to P12 I want to have my circuit turn the motor on and see it spin and see the LED turn ON/OFF too ... maybe even burn-out if there's no current limiting resistor in the LED circuit.

    I have no income nor a budget for materials so I hope potential sponsors for my classes can visit and help with donations;

For my work I really need a BOE object for Fritzing.

I appreciate the emphasis on getting the prop board object done, but I bet there are a lot more BOE / Homework boards out there than Prop.

    Two reasons:
    - I add lots of exercises to the WAM and Robotics texts and am currently stuck with various techniques to show wiring, all of which are bad (photo, hand sketch, real example). Then I need to also create the schematic.
    - I would like to make a few boards W/circuits to fit on top of the BOE like Arduino shields. That would be much easier with a 3-view designer like Fritzing.

What do we need to do to get it done? If I had the skills I would attampt it. Sounds like the perfect intern project or for an undergrad project. Any university faculty out there that might promote the idea with their students? I can't speak for Plax, but a good result might get a bit of credit at the store.

Yes, Most definately. I just installed and played around and this is quite a cool program. I think it would especially be great for beginners. I did notice that there is no standard BS2. It starts with the BS2SX. However, once I figure out how to add my own I will put one in it. I like the fact that there are many components to choose from. I did not see any LED's but when I did a search for them a ton of them came up.

Edit: It would be really cool to see all the various Parallax boards such as the BOE Boards, Homework Boards etc. implemented. That would make it easy to save designs for future reference.

Edit 2: And even better, future versions could make it so you could actually test the circuits to see if they work properly, (Yea, I know, that's a FAR stretch but would really be cool!!!)

I'd like to see the BOE available in Fritzing as well. Does anyone know where I can find instructions on how to contribute one myself, I'd be willing to give it a shot, thanks!

Thanks eod_punk. Been reading about this in Nuts & Volts in Smiley's column - the the Ard***o. This is great news.

@Ken - BOE for sure, Prop and BS.

The latest version is now available. I am installing now. Hoping it has more Parallax products in it. I think the Prop Project Board would be a great addition also.
