Special Request: Expo Attendees: "Friends of UPEC"

The expos always bring out the very best in attendees. Speakers, projects, and even some who show up to help!

This year, (thanks to Ken @ Parallax) we're going to try to do something extra for those helpers.

Introducing: "Friends of UPE"

I need 10 volunteers who are willing to commit the the following for UPEC:

* Be on hand the evening before to help setup.
(Involves setting up chairs, tables, placing cords and materials.)

* Be on hand the hour after the expo to help cleanup.
(For UPEC this involves setting up the main room so that it can be used for church the following morning.)
(This includes moving chairs, tables, cleanup, and vacuuming.)

As a thank you for your commitment, we would like to give the following:

* A Propeller Protoboard w/Hat Decal.
* 5 raffle tickets for the Red Cross Drawings.
* A special badge which puts you at the head of the lunch/dinner lines.
* The appreciation of all of the expo attendees.

I suspect that a few of our other sponsors may chime in to sweeten the deal even more.

I will take the first 10 who can seriously commit and post to this thread.
I will contact you by PM to trade cell phone numbers.

Friends of UPEC:
===========

1. Doug Dingus (AKA Potatohead)
2. schill
3. RichK
4. Roger
5. Jim Fouch
6. John R.
7. Tony Billingsley

9. Ken Gracey

    Jeff, you have mine. Would love to do this. No hardware required. Raffle it off, or pick one of the newbies and find a reason to put it in their hands :)

    If I take the day off before UPEC, I can help out the night before. I can help out after both UPEC and UPENE. No perqs required so you don't need to add me to the list but I'll be there.

    Jeff,
    I'm about 3 hours away. I'll get there sometime mid-afternoon.
    Need that front of the line thing -- "Back you scurvy dogs, back I say!!"

    Oh, and I will willingly accept the remainder of the items also. Does the little tag get me to the front of the beer line also???

    BTW: I don't mean to set the tone for perks either. I just have plenty of stuff to work with. Anybody interested in the goodies really should say so. I just happened to see this thread and post first!

    Robin and I will both be there to help out.
    As far as extras go, pile it on baby! (Is this like a reverse cover charge?)

    We would help out anyway, this just makes it "official".

    awaiting your PM.

    Sign me up for help on the California expo. I'll be there (Parallax) Friday for the Prop Educators course, and we'll be camping in the area through Monday or Tuesday night.

    I'll help. You lead, I'll follow without reservation (for setup/teardown) unless an instruction is completely unreasonable.
    I'll put on my old submissive Navy hat temporarily ... mine is not to question why, mine is just to do or die ... for lawful orders.
    If you don't want my help, I'll truly understand :)

    @John R. just curious where will your camp site be?

    Looks clear, then I see John signed up to help for UPEW.

    Two spots left! (actually one one Rich (rjo) finds this thread, as he's already offered.)

    @Jazzed, we'll not only try to keep the instructions reasonable, but work with a spirit of fun as well!

    @Ken,

    Bringing toys for the other helpers and putting on the hat yourself! Awesome! Thank You!

    @Roy,

    I'll actually start a thread for UPEW in a week or so, but I'll count you as included! Thank You!

    Other forum groups could really take a lesson from the caliber of people who hang out here.
    Solid Gold. I'm humbled to be allowed to put together these Expos for such great folk.

    Ooops! All I saw was the thread title! Put me down for UPEW but not UPEC.

    @Ken, no problem with the laptop! Except this year it will be my Acer Wifi enabled NetBook. They are so cheap, portable, and usable with WindowsXP one or more would be great for raffle prizes. For Linux Lovers I was thinking about burning some Fedora Thumb-USBs with preinstalled/tested BST and other tools. Booting from Thumb-USB is slow (until you decide to commit devil.gif), but it is an interesting alternative to try.

    @OBC, I'm sure it will be fun in any event. Having Fun is not an unreasonable request! :)

    Clarificaiton: I saw the subject and jumped on this for UPEW, but as it turns out, I can also do the Chicago thing, assuming that the "night before" isn't too early (I'll need to drive down after work from WisCOWnsin.

    For Chicago, I'll just make the treck from home (Beaver Dam, Wisconsin).

    For California, I'm not sure if we'll stay near Taho (National Forrest), or in the California·Auburn Recreation Area.· My wife, two dogs and I don't need much, our "minimum requirement" is at least a pit toilet :-)

    In the old days, you used to be able to park your UFO in the Parallax lot, but I haven't seen that notice in a long time.· It's easer to drive out anyway.· Fuel for the Plasma Engine is getting expensive, and dodging the Air Force is getting harder all the time.

    My spaceship is in the shop waiting for a tangential illuminator shield :) I'll have to drive something more conventional. I guess Tahoe would be cooler than the valley end of June. Last year my steering wheel was just to hot to hold after being in the sun so long.

    You can still camp at Parallax in our parking lot. Somebody must have removed my statement about parking your UFO at our building. But it still holds true.

    It's looking like we'll reach the location by 7 or 8pm the night before...
    (I'll solidify this as soon I as I can.. Timing is based on our reception of the rental van that morning here.)

    I anticipate it will take our group around an hour+ to get things setup.

    Don't forget that there is a reception being hosted by the hotel for all attendees the night before.
    (Will post details in the main thread)
