In case you Bigtrak fans haven't heard...

Maybe after this the prices of the original ones will go below $1,000.00 on eBay?

I have the original and it's dump truck attachment. This is one that I'll never apart from no matter how much money it will bring. I guess I'm just one that you can say that has fallen in love with their Big Trak with no mods at all but had been taken apart to see how it works back in the 80's hehehehe..

@Homer: I'll part with my Ebay-acquired Big Trak for $700, if that helps you out!

I used to play with the BigTrack at my Grandpa's house. Oh, how I wish I had one..... THAT was a cool toy!

I've toyed with the idea of building one.... maybe on a wood base or something...... The trick is, I'm not sure if I can find a blue photon ray gun though. Such a devastating device can't just be purchased at DigiKey y'know!

At the risk of shamefully resurrecting my Poor Cousin thread at http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=869446
the Retrobot platform pretty much IS a Big Trak, or pretty close anyway. A good starting point if anyone wanted to build their own. It's a programmable differential drive robot with wheel encoders that are quite precise and allow accurate navigation. It uses a BS2-class processor, and has 7 unused i/o pins that could be connected to a keypad, a speaker & LEDs. A keypad would be a step backwards from using the Pathfinder code, which lets you teach the unit a precise path by simply driving it with a remote·control.
