I would like to desolder the PIR sensor from the board and solder wires in between the board and the sensor. Has anyone tried this and what would be the maximum length? Would you recomment shielded or twisted pairs?

I would recommend you not doing this.

Maximum length is just before it becomes unstable and that would be determined by trial and error.

If you do, I'd recommend using a shielded cable for precaution :) Run the shield to 0V on the base side.

I've tried this on several devices. My success is kinda low! You might be a better solder-er that I though. I can't remember is the PIR is surface mount stuff or not.... If so, I'd surely thing twice about trying it!!! HA!

FWIW, I considered doing the same... The board is so small though, my reasons were purely cosmetic, so I opted not to risk my sensor.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll redesign the enclosure.
