I've got goodies to stuff in there, so no problem. It's morbid curiosity as to what will arrive!!
I think the box should have a log book in it. People can write stories, talk about what they found, leave best wishes, code, etc...
Edit: I see "4. Add your name to the log included in the box. Name, forum alias, city, and comments" :)

We've already attracted a Propeller user that wasn't part of the "official" forums so it's all as Potato says.

The Savage Circuits site was originally nothing more than a showcase of my own projects, but I had always wanted to involve more people and especially get more people interested in the hobby. Now the site is prepared for that, but it has gone through a lot of changes to get to this point. Because of that 1/2 of the member base is currently inactive. As a moderator of these forums I have noticed on occasion support questions being overlooked due to someone's project in progress being posted or something else that catches attention easier than someone asking for help. I always thought it would be nice to have a place where members could talk about their projects, showcase them and have general discussion about them and theory without taking away from the members here who could use some real help. I stopped posting about Savage Circuits here a while ago and removed my sig line that mentioned it.
Now that the site is fully functional, *not* going to change, and has a pretty good member base to work toward maturing I am going to continue what I originally did to get the site discovered. That is keep releasing tutorial and informational videos and posting more projects with complete details. I certainly don't want to take anything away from the Parallax Forums. I was merely trying to fill a niche that had not been.
OBC's forum is listed as a SIG. He is fully in control of it and the content in that sense could be considered independant of the overall site since there is a specific focus there. The same applies for the Savage Circuits Completed Projects and Savage Circuits TV (new episode being released this evening). They have their own special place. Anyway, everyone here is welcome to join us. As soon as a larger % of members becomes active again I am going to start posting some contests with some prizes. Member participation will be a requirement. Sadly with all the recent changes (changes of software followed by host changes) several members have not been back. Needless to say I will never host anything on GoDaddy.com again.
As a side-note, it is ideas like this travelling Junk Box that really give me that feeling of community more than anything else.· That so many strangers with a similar interest can reach out to help their fellow hackers and hobbyists is inspiring and the spirit of my website.·

All of those who subscribed over the weekend have already gotten their accounts approved!
You need to head back to Savage Circuits and put your address in the list. Our group will appear
at the bottom of the forum listings once you have been approved.

Savage Circuits usually works best for me if I check the "remember me" box (which I am sure - leaves me a little cookie).

@microcontrolled - Glad I saw your new reply today, after your post yesterday I was expecting to see your avatar change so that the 8-bit micro was replaced with a the Savage Circuits logo.·

I like the forum. I always think of it as a "vintage" electronics forum, but it is nice. I noticed you discuss other micro's on there, so I refrained from using my Parallax forums avatar.

Sidebar: To me, the word "avatar" always tweaks me a little.
No suggestions for the site at the moment. Runs great, now it's just the honeypot. Let's hope for the "build it and they will come" factor to kick in. Ideally, we get a new crowd to enjoy :) IMHO, the first chance you get, be sure and start plugging interesting goings on at the usual haunts. It won't take too many of those to draw that second tier crowd.
IMHO, half being inactive isn't a big deal. All it's going to take is a few nice projects followed by some linkage. That will happen soon enough.
Of course, if OBC continues that kind of brilliance in ideas, sooner will come sooner. Thanks for the effort. I know from personal experience, setting up a venue isn't easy stuff. The polish makes it, as does the community. You've some good folks starting out, that's usually a good thing.
I would be posting there a bit more, but I've some work to do. Real work + Propeller video driver work. (watches OBC and Trodoss tap foot...) That will change. Always does.
@Microcontrolled: Yours is pretty great. It's in that simple line art style, and that's always cool to me.
Truth is, 8 bits is enough!! I just like 8 bit CPUs, because they are simple enough in scope that your average person can do stuff on them, and they are kind of the golden age of the personal computer. Lots of good stuff happened on Z80, 6502, 6809, etc... and then came Intel, proving that brute force can win the day. Don't worry about the finer elements of computing, just crank the clock, and let the fan sort the rest of the bits out :P
