Friend gave it to me.

I downloaded the drive from ftdi and also have a 9v battery plugged into it.

Check your battery. Check your USB cable. If this is a USB Board of Education, make sure the FTDI driver is installed properly. If it's a serial Board of Education and you're using someone else's USB to serial adapter, it may be one of those that won't for for programming a Stamp.
