hey guys, im just starting to use the propeller but i was wondering, instead of using a prop plug coulf you make your own serial cable adaptor instead? would spin even see it on the COM port if you used a serial cable?

Yes you can use standard serial cables. One, two, even four serial port drivers all out of one cog. Two pins per serial port, or if you wish you can add the handshaking pins as well. I don't use a prop plug - just a standard serial cable into a D9 and a max232 to do the level conversion. And one of those $2 USB to D9 adaptors or (on some of my older PCs) a real serial port.

Parallax has posted a schematic of a (3) transistor serial circuit to program the propeller here www.parallax.com/Portals/0/Downloads/docs/prod/prop/SerialtoPropeller.pdf

The Wulfden P1 adapter ($5 + shipping) is available here www.wulfden.org/TheShoppe/pa/index.shtml

There has been a lot of discussion on which edge the reset should be fired off of. The three transistor cct, which I use a lot, will reset on the rising edge of DTR.

Dr_Accula has modded his ver 6 of the DracBlade board to select the negative going edge via a PNP transistor, but I have yet to try this. I often get a failed connection on the first try, but after that it works every time.
