Dad's Mightymite Robot

My father is a missionary to Mongolia (china) and in his off time has been working on a robot.

I thought I'd post a few of the pictures that he's been sending me.

I've finally convinced him to learn about microcontrollers, and he's decided to go BASIC stamp.
(thanks Ken!) It'll be interesting to see him add some automation to this project.

    As a side note, I thought that Mongolia was an independent nation, not a province of China?

    They are independent, however Chinese heavy influences there..
    (I usually mention China, for those who haven't a clue where Mongolia is, and forgot who I was talking too. [noparse]:)[/noparse]

    That's pretty cool looking. I'm really curious about how the arm is actuated and what kind of feedback system he's using.

    I see he has an rc car controller on there. I wonder how he uses it to control this thing? Very cool though, he has great mechanical talent!

    Ya, one person wondered what the feedback system was on the bot arm.

    Here's a detailed rundown of the bot.


    Mighty Mite I
    Radio Controlled Fork Lift
    Begun project 9/11/09

    Size: Height 22: inches Width: 16 inches Length: 28 inches (including forks)Weight 60 lbs.
    Steering: tricycle front wheel and yoke
    Steering power: power window motor
    Drive power: windshield wiper motor
    Fork lift: power window motor
    Receiver: salvaged from RC toy car
    Transmitter: 2 channel 27 MHz from RC toy car
    Second Transmitter: 1 channel garage door opener
    Speed control: welder resister and servo salvaged from a voltage regulator
    Batteries: Two: 12 volt Gel cells 7AH
    Switching: 20: dpst 12 volt relays
    Fork lift cap.: approx. 10 lbs


    Mighty Mite II (additions)

    Moveable arm with gripper
    Wireless Video camera with tilt and pan
    Second toy car transceiver
    12 additional 12 volt relays
    Two power window motors
    Gripper- bicycle brake calipers
    Gripper- toy car rear drive motor
    14 volt NiCad drill battery
