AT commands?

Hello all,
I am trying to add cellular communication to a project. Actually I already have added cell com to the project. It is very ugly due to the 22 wires that are coming out of the front of the phone! (It's really cool to see the phone go through all the steps to send me a text message). I left the keypad intact only tapped into the nav keys. I can call it, do functions with a dtmf decoder, and send back text messages and sound confirmations.
I am trying to eliminate all the wires and plug directly into the phone with a cable.
I have joined a phone developer forum, but I need some help with what questions to ask.
Can the prop send AT commands? Or does anybody know what commands that the prop can send that a mobile phone can understand?
Thanks!

Not sure what your exact goal is, but check out Jay Kickliter's threads about interfacing to cheap motorola phones via their audio jack

I think he was sending more than receiving, but I bet it could receive too
If a handset isn't essential, consider a GSM modem from someone like Telit GE862 or GE864 (Sparkfun have them as do others). Its easier to manage the power and interfacing
cheers

I have read those forums, but I am looking for a phone that is more widely available. I believe that phone is obsolete. At least in my area. i have looked at the gsm modums on sparkfun, but prepaid cell phones are becoming so inexpensive.
