im trying to determine a sensor to measure height of an object, but im not sure what to use.· any suggestions?

By Environment, I mean in the middle of a room, between two stanchions, against a wall, etc. The real question is how does the sensor need to be mounted, and what does the object to be measured look like, and what is the background.
The line sonsor might work, as long as the range of heights isn't too great. The greater this distance, and/or the greater the accuracy, the more refined the sensor needs to be.
