Power lines and props

edited 2010-03-27 14:55 in General Discussion
There is a story about power lines possibly being a cause of energy for the sudden acceleration of Toyotas.· I've heard if you take a florescent light around powerlines, they will light up.

I'm just curious what effects a field of energy would have on the prop or other electrical components.· Has there been any studies?

Not sure if any studies have been done but I carried one 8 foot and one 4 foot fluorescent tube under a 660KV transmission line to settle an argument one night. Neither one lit up. However both will light up if you get close enough to a high power RF transmitter. Best if you are NOT holding them at that point.

I've placed both a BS2 and a propeller under some powerlines just up the road from the house and did not notice any sudden acceleration, sorry.

I tried this once and got some glimmers of light. Nothing spectacular but those particular power lines crackled and hissed a lot all the time so it didn't surprise me that the fields might be fluctuating.

Somebody told me the Mythbusters tried to get power off a power line by placing a coil nearby but they got nothing to speak of. I've always wondered if the Mythbusters rectified their output or were just looking at raw voltage, which I presume would read zero if they were using a regular voltmeter. nono.gif

Metal objects under these lines can shock you.

In the following,·safety around these lines for farmers is discussed:
