PropMod 1x1 to Spin Studio Adapter board

A forum member ask me to create a PCB so that he could attach PropMod 1x1's to a Spin Studio board for multi-prop experimentation. Attached is the design. I plan on ordering several of these units and selling them for US$2.50 per PCB, or slightly more. The unit basically connects the PropMod 1x1 via the two 2x9 headers to the Spin Studio board via the 2x10 header. The Spin Studio board has 8 I/Os per connector and they are attached to the first few Propeller Pin of the PropMod 1x1 as well as to pins 30/31. In addition there are two solder jumpers on the bottom side of the board so that one can chose to attach SDA/SCL to pins 5/6 of the PropMod 1x1 I/O.

The board is designed to not overhang off of the Spin Studio but rather to point inwards so the edge with the "Marko Module Rev0" would rest on the Spin Studio Prop IC.

Let me know if you are interested in ordering some of these PCBs. Just drop a note on this thread or a PM. It will be two weeks before I get the PCB in house.

FWIW, that would be me (Marko). One minor point, the reset line will sit next to P31/P30, i.e. P2/P1/P0 of the SpinStudio socket.

I'll be contacting you about buying some of these to offer on uController.com

I really haven't advertised or taken part in discussions much on the forums lately due to some personal/family issues, even thought about giving it up. But the news of my demise is premature. I still plan to continue to offer my existing products on into the foreseeable future. Hopefully soon offering some new products as well.

Brian - it is great to hear from you! I believe your system is a great system for beginner and you definitely earned your place in the books at a Propeller Entreprenuer Pioneer. You were one of the first to spark a lot of people into the Propeller and get them an expandable and easy to use system. I hope you can get thrive through the experiences you are going through now.

No problem selling them on your site. We can talk. I ordered 100 units and would love to see people use them.

Thanks for the kind words. Between that, and a few recent emails from customers, letting me know what some SpinStudio's are doing, where and what they've been used for, makes it all worthwhile.

Quick update on the Marko Module: The PCBs shipped later than I expected from China. The PCBs are in Singapore, however I am not in Singapore. I am coordinating with my wife to get the package and to take some pictures/scans to post on-line here. It will probably be a week or two before I post them for sale on the Brilldea web site.

Soon there will be easy, multi-propeller computing for Spin Studio!

    Got them!!!

We now have Marko Modules at Brilldea. Tomorrow I will get a basic web site up for ordering, it will be better than sending PayPal invoices. Attached is a scan of the front and back side of the PCB.

you should make a note that your text is upside down from that of the module. The pin 1 marking on my module goes toward the spin studio header. just so people do not accidently put in upside down.

For the terminally curious, I managed to get my first two units up and running last w/e. The PropMods 1x1 have their overvoltage protection removed. For testing purposes I have 17 looping cogs and 3 in a waitpne gobbling 140mA @9V (that includes the power LED). Not sure yet how much the voltage regulator can take without heat sink but I guess 5 props is a bit ambitious :)

Anyway, sockets A-C are fast sockets (XLINK, bitrate clkfreq/16, i.e. 5Mb/s @80MHz), socket D only supports slow mode ATM (PropellerLoader, bitrate clkfreq/4400, i.e. ~18Kb/s @80MHz).
