Prop based IMU / UAV Dev platform

I'm looking to put together a prop based IMU / UAV development platform in the format of a Arduino Shield, the idea is to get the propeller to do the servo control (and interface with the RC receiver) as well as interfacing with the gyro / accelerometer. The prop could easily do sensor based stabilization (PID or whatnot), and channel mixing.

I'm going to try to get 20 servo connections fitted in, 8 + 8 + 4 bit banks, each bank·configurable (in or out with voltage translation) so that it can be used as the control system for a number of things as well, such as a 6 legged robot, rover,·quad copter, fixed or swing wing UAV.

The standard·wiring format of the Arduino and the availability of plug on modules for things like GPS, XBEE and motor drivers·I think makes it a good choice. Communication with the Arduino would be i2c (in a·bank of registers). with the prop being the master.

SparkFun accelerometers and gyro's would need to be aquired and soldered on, and programming would be done via a prop plug interface, so the board should be quite cheap in it's basic form.

Would anyone be interested in this project? I'm looking to get 10 boards put together as a trial, and would like to know if there is any interest for something like this.

You might want to join the Quadracopter/Hexacopter topic in the Propeller Chip forum. This project might fit in with whats happening their.
