I just found this site recently. They have a fairly good variety on cheap items, such as 100 5mm red LEDs for $2.20!

XLNT post and website. It really pays to stock up on common items in bulk: LEDs, caps, resistors, pots, sensors, transistors, FETs, IR phototransistors & LEDs, etc. Shipping is cheap, so put in a big $20-30 order and wait 2 weeks for it. Beats running to Radio Shack for one LED!

Next, you'll need some nice parts cabinets & drawers. Find & post those next!

I really love these Stanley parts organizer cases for $15: http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-014725R-25-Removable-Compartment-Professional/dp/B00005QWYF/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1268631541&sr=8-1

I have 5 of them now (filled one up and bought another, rinse/repeat). It's so handy that the little parts bins lift out, and they stack really well.

Has anyone ordered from them before?

Are the products ROHS?

I use several of these 60-drawer units for parts. They go on sale regularly for 10-12 dollars.

I haven't ordered from them yet but I plan to. You could always ask about ROHS with their customer service.

@erco I should get one of those, I'm very disorganized. I've had to turn to the step and find approach for the little stuff, and just hope·I·don't get stabbed.

Nice Find! Thanks Pi Guy...Just what I needed - another place to shop! shocked.gif Honestly a little storage cabinet of any sort really helps. Even if you are totally organized - it better than no organization at all. Just knowing it is somewhere in the cabinet narrows it down a lot.

Your as bad a erco - finding us places to spend our money.· wink.gif As a matter of fact, erco and I meet on this forum when he was selling something - Guess who bought it?

ROHS is fine & dandy, but face it, we're all still using lead solder, right? And lead tire balancing weights?

@Whit: Do you want to buy some magic smoke? Fresh, fresh, fresh! You can revive fried chips just by replacing the smoke! It comes from heating snake oil "just so"...

@micro: I've been soldering with lead solder for many moons. There's no doubt that lead is bad these days and contact should be minimized, including breathing it in. I tell myself the "magic smoke" from soldering is just the flux inside melting, not lead vapors. Ignorance is bliss!

Same here handling lead solder for decades. Just last week I had my doctor tack on a lead test to my bloodwork to find out if my levels were elevated. It came back <1.0 ug/dL. 10.0 ug/dL and higher is considered abnormal according to the chart.

SO BOOMARKED AS OF IMMEDIATELY, thanks for this. Reminds me of a company that used to be in business in the 1970's called Poly Paks, which as the name suggests sold surplus components in large quantities very cheap in plastic bags. I still have some of the stuff I bought from them when I was a kid.

I found another good site. It has a lot of random items but if you look around there are great deals, such as this touch screen for $2.74 with free shipping:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3245

There are also sd cards, 4gb microSD·for $11 (free shipping, of course) and LEDs and lasers, too. If you try hard you can get good deals. This IR package comes with·20 ir leds for $2.93, amounting to 14.65 cents each, and they have a similar one for UV too.

They have some nice lasers that are (now) illegal to own in the US. I should ship that through my friend in Germany...
But seriously, watch the quality from DX. I bought a small blowtorch and some microSD adapters...the blowtorch stopped working after about 5 uses and the SD readers...are flimsy and easy to break (I've gone through two already) but work like they should.
Lots of cheap goodies though :)

Yeah, the reviews talked about problems on some of the cheaper electronics. Guess it's good to read them, huh? But for the most part I'd expect it to be okay. If a case breaks it's not too hard to re-glue it.

Pi Guy,

I have ordered from sites just like DealExtreme, and they ship from China. The shipping takes at the very most, 20 days (to ship to the US) and I have gotten things in great condition. Be warned--manuals and packaging may be in highly encrypted Chinese. smile.gif

Thanks for the link though--I am definitely going to order that now.

EDIT: I found a ds touch screen from the site I've ordered from before: http://priceangels.com/Touch_Screen_Replacement_Module_for_NDS_p184.html

I just spent 20 bucks at Tayda along with my Parallax puchase so I guess I'll report how it goes back here. I figure I got about 280 componants so will see how my room handles! Along with everything else I got 2x6.4mhz crystals and 2x7.3mhz crystals so I'll see if they will work on the PDB's I have comming in.

Just received my order from Tayda. Total time traveled; 13 days to Tennessee. Items arrived in a padded envelope neatly arranged in individual baggies and taped to a sheet of paper.

These guys are awesome. I've ordered from them many many times via Ebay. Ships from Thailand so takes longer than you might be used to but actually takes less time than most Chinese locations.

I always order the common items from them in bulk (7805, LM317, etc). They're the best for that stuff.
