DIY CNC References
There have been a few threads recently about DIY CNC projects. I'm working on "re-purposing" a "micro lab" myself.
Here are a couple of possibly useful references I've come across. If people reply to this thread with additional resources, that would be great for all of us!
G Code Definition - possibly the most useful resource I've found. This is a collection of work by NIST on a number of related projects, working toward an "open architecture machine controller". Parts of this are also known as the EMC System.
This is the directory of a number useful reports: www.isd.mel.nist.gov/personnel/kramer/pubs/ The RS274NGC_3 stuff is the most recent, and there is a PDF and PS document, as well as a ".web" directory. This link: www.isd.mel.nist.gov/personnel/kramer/pubs/RS274NGC_3.web/RS274NGC_3TOC.html is the entry point for web based reading.
This report (I have only starting looking through it) looks to be a great tool in not only understanding the whoe G Code thing, but also a great guide to dealing with interpreting the code and controlling a machine.
LinuxCNC.org (www.linuxcnc.org) - This site is current home of the EMC (Enhanced Machine Controller) that is based on the work above. This is a Linux based machine controller. Note that this is not software to generate G Code, but software to turn G Code into machine control signals (run the machine). I have not really dug in, but there is lots of useful information, even if you don't plan on using the software.
