IR remote Clear-up

Hello Forum,
I need to get things straight with the IR remote for the Boe Bot. My question is, do I have to use the 10 dollar universal remote provided by Parallax to remote control my Boe Bot through IR, or can I use any Sony tv remote?

    Any Sony TV remote should be fine. Or any universal remote set to control Sony TVs.
