Cheap Servos on Ebay
I find it amazing·that China sellers they can sell & ship·twelve 9-gram servos for $32.99 (that's just $2.75 each):

Or two ultralight 3.7-gram servos for $7.55· :

I bought ten of those·9-gram servos for 28.88. They work fine. I can get about 150 degrees of motion driving them with a BS2.
Compared to a similar-sized Japanese JR servo model NES-241, the Chinese servo has less gear reduction and feels a bit rougher when you rotate it by hand. But well worth the price·for experimentation or trying to build an affordable·multi-servo robot.
At some point, I want to build a small robot arm using servos, and a four-legged walker.
Heck at this price, a six-legged walker with two robot arms on board!

I've bought stuff from them a few times and I've always been well pleased.
I also noticed that they have a pair of the metal gear versions w/BB for around $15.
If you keep posting stuff like this my Wife won't let me read the forums anymore..... On second thought perhaps I should send you my list of stuff that I could use since you'll probably find a deal on them somewhere....

I think we're all budget-minded packrats by nature. I love to pounce on a good deal when I see it, even if I don't need the parts just yet. Eventually (I rationalize) I will find the perfect application for this part... And now I feel redeemed since I built my recent Poor Cousin AKA Retrobot using surplus motors that have been laying around for 6 years. I can't even remember buying them, but they were perfect for this application. Needless to say, I've bought 10 more units since then... "Just in Cases", as the girl says in "Love Actually".

It looks pretty close. The HS-55 in 8 grams at 16 oz/in, and the ebay item is 9 grams at 20 oz/in if my conversion was correct.
Not sure about mounting holes, but it should line up to fit standard mounting patterns. Erco can confirm.
I use quite a few HS-55 at $13.00 each. This looks like a great buy.

I've tried tons of these guys.

Hobbyking sells a hextronic version.

The 900 version. If you order from china its less but you pay more for shipping and longer wait time to recieve. They sell the same thing from a US warehouse a little more but
a quicker shipping time.
I am on my 4th or 5th protype micro-hex powered from a Propeller, I included a video below. The video is preprogrammed no user input. Current version
now runs of a Playstation 2 Wireless controller. And working on a XBee controller..· It runs on a Foward Kinematics engine In the video.
Since then been replaced by a Inverse Kinematics engine.
I have not tested them but I have read the reviews and if Helicopter pilots say that they will never go back to a Hitec HS-55 its to hard not to give them a try.
Look prominsing and the cost cuts hundereds of the total cost of a bot.
From what I understand the EBAY copies of these look alike but are·cheaper copies. And when I mean cheaper I mean by component qualities.
I personally didnt pick up any but have from HobbyKing versions. They are beefier. Thicker gears and seem more solid.·· I think HobbyKing manufactures two versions.
They state this on there site on ther site:
"
WARNING
These servos can be found on eBay and other asian sellers at close to this price, however be warned, they do not contain Taiwan/Japan components. HexTronik (the manufacturers of these servos) have two standards, one is for local sale, and the other is export quality with imported connectors and resin gears from Taiwan and Japan.
Our HXT500 and HXT900 are export only, and not built for the domestic market."
"
It can be bull so you buy from them but comments by users got me to pick up 20 of them from them last week.· Along with some other things.· Shipping is killer about 20 bucks.
In this vid all run from Hs-55 and still finishing up the hextrinox version as I have to mill out new parts because of the slight dimension change.

I am going to submit this on the forum as the controller is easily built and with a protype board and·a couple of resistors·any one can have a controller board.·
One chip to control it all.· Just perfect.
