Hi guys I bought a bunch of crystals from Digitech for my prop proto boards but they sent me crystals that are square with 4 pins ,, the pinout is
#1 NC
#7 CASE GND
#8 OUTPUT
#14 +5 V DC

Can I use these with my prop boards and if yes how would I connect them ???? thanks

Those aren't crystals, they are oscillators! They have crystals inside them, of course. You could use them with the Propeller, just connect the oscillator output to the XI input. It's in the data sheet. You will need to attenuate the signal, as the Propeller won't like a 5V clock input. They will probably operate from 3.3V, I've tried it.

Thanks Leon the only thing that tripped me up is the schematic shows the crystal connecting to Osc1 and Osc2 in/out this type of device only has clock/out

Hover they are ECS-100AX DegiKey has done this to me a few times but they work fine with my PIC stuff

Guys while I have your attention does anyone know how I could identify the value of a 2 leg crystal I pulled a bunch off old circuit boards over the months but they have no markings on most
just things like 04-33 nothing I can google

Wire up a simple oscillator and check the output with a frequency counter. A scope could be used but it won't be very accurate.

A single inverter with a biasing resistor will usually get a crystal to oscillate.
