If you want to build the system described, there is a small error in the schematic to do with one of the EPROM chip selects. A few years ago I built a version of it with a Lattice CPLD replacing the TTL chips, and a software UART instead of the hardware UART. I think I got it down to three chips as I used an NVRAM instead of the original EPROM and RAM.
One of the 68000 designers worked at a Motorola sales office near where I was living, and he helped a lot with me getting permission to reproduce the various tables. It got good reviews at the time.
I've still got a copy, perhaps I ought to see if I can get $40 for it.

Gee, I hope you are right RobotWorkshop, I just e-mailed the editor announcing that I would be sending my article soon and giving a brief description of what my article was about. That was the hardest e-mail I've ever sent. If they want people to write articles, they need to make it less intimidating. I also mentioned that a previous writer had suggested I submit that project, meaning you of course. I hope they don't lose interest before they even read the article, but you said that I should send it. Thanks for the support.

P.S. Good thing I don't have any homeowners expenses..... Yet.
I did a regular column many years ago for a now-defunct TRS-80 magazine in exchange for advertising. The deadlines were murder, and it was always a mad scramble at the last minute to come up with fresh material to write about. I didn't really like writing ('still don't), yet I couldn't afford to pay for advertising either. But it was well worth the effort in my early career, since it attracted the attention of a reader who not only became a good customer but provided further contacts in his business that really paid off in the end.
I was the founder of NATGUG, the UK TRS-80 users group, and edited the newsletter for many years. It's still around, but is more of a social group these days, and holds a get-together twice a year at a hotel near Swindon.

I wrote a column called "System/Command" in 80-U.S., which was published out of Tacoma. The column dealt with assembly language, and much of it centered on hacking the BASIC interpreter by taking advantage of RAM vectors provided in ROM.
I remember that magazine! As I recall that didn't get as large a following as 80-Micro because many of the bookstores misplaced it and put it in the 'Travel' section instead of where the computer and technical books were normally found. Just because of the name of the magazine. If they had actually looked at the content they would have figured things out sooner and that it belonged in another section.
I used to write regularly for Popular & Radio Electronics, though initially I did so under a pseudonym. Later I decided it might help my business to use my real name. I have had several articles published in Nuts & Volts, Servo and even Elektor. The people at T&L Publications (N&V/Servo) are very nice and easy to work with.
Congratulations!!! That is outstanding! It could be the start of something big fr you. Keep up the good work and think about some of the other projects you've worked on the people may enjoy reading about the could learn from.
Your enthusiasm may help inspire others to give it a shot too!
Thanks everyone!! I don't know any of the details yet.... still waiting for them to get back with me. Once I find out what issue I'll be in I'll have to buy multiple copies!!
It may take a little while. The fact that they already responded and said they accepted the article is a good sign. I'd wait a week or two and send a follow up e-mail asking if they have decided which issue it may be going in. If there is an opening in an upcoming issue it may be soon. If not it would probably go in the queue of articles they have and then they'll decide the ones that will go in each issue.
In the meantime think about what else you may want to write about. Have you thought about how the speech object for the Propeller could be used to recognize speech for a robot? That would be a good topic for SERVO..... Just a suggestion...
Thanks. That speech object was mostly Phil's work, and I only modified it a little. I could do one on my homemade alarm clock that wakes you up with a song read from an SD card. That may be of interest to a magazine.
It's almost been a week. I still have not heard back. I had to send the files to someone else, do you think the email didn't get through? :(
