Robots – save or recycle?

Do you save your robots like Ken Gracey does, or recycle like Manetheren?

I want to kick myself for all the robots I recycled. Nowadays, I save every one. In fact, I have plans to rebuild the lost and torn down robots from the past. Anyone feel like this? I never realized these became part of the family until it was too late.

Do you have a robot you rescued? Old robots can be found in various stages of degeneration, parts missing, broken, etc. Rebuild it and give it new life.

I try not to tear apart past robots, but only build new ones. For me, though, building them is most of the fun.

I wish I could leave all my little creations together, but the cost of the materials are too much that I have to reuse the main boards.

Save them of course! In fact I spend a lot of time rebuilding/restoring robots that others have trashed along the way. Sadly there are a couple cases where some really cool prototype robots were torn down for parts to build the next prototype. Androbot in particular was one of the companies that did this toward the end. I found one of the empty shells and rebuilt that into a working robot again. It ended up being the basis for a 4 part series in SERVO back in 2008.

I save them until a part becomes needed. I have quite a few 80%ers sitting on the shelves.
