APRS and the propeller

Just wondering if anyone has done any·tinkering using the propeller to transmit and decode APRS. I wouldn't think this would be a problem at all for the prop, im just not there yet as far as programming goes. theres one such device from argent data systems called the opentracker+·that does this using a·Freescale MC·microcontroller and it has alot of features, like one-wire weather station input, gps, on-board temp and voltage sensor. im thinking with a prop, one could make one similar that would have many more times the features and better control of the radio.

Any thoughts?

There is a Bell 202 object in the object exchange. I was hoping to work on one this spring/summer.

I've been working on a kiss modem implementation off and on for about a year now. It isn't as easy as it looks.

Why would anyone want somebody else minding their business instead of their own?
What is the APPEAL of APRS?
It's bad enough to be embarrassed when stores forget to erase their RFID ICS and setting off alarms with stuff you buy,
but who WANTS to be watched by Orwell's Big Brother all the time ?

It is used by radio amateurs. and is especially useful for services like the UK RAYNET which assists the emergency services during disasters:

First off, as Bob Bruninga (WB4APR) says probably about a hundred times a day, APRS--despite the name--is more than just a tracking system. It can carry messages without specific path specification from one HAM to another and it can advertise local repeaters for instance.

Sure, many of us use it only for the tracking capability (I typically during a special event or a testing run, and not daily)--but the messaging faculty and the weather reporting faculty get a lot of use around where I am.

APRS is about more than mere positions--it is about sharing geographically tagged communications (and often doing so using cheap commodity and used hardware).

A while back I said that I'd be patching the bell-202 modem monitor for use on LINUX.
Attached is my patched version. I don't guarantee that it will work for anybody else as-is, but it works for me.

I really have to thank Phil for the work he did putting together the original bell-202 code and the modem monitor.
