Quadrover viable ?

I have been following the Quadrover project over the last year. I thought it was a risky venture considering the price (especially in the current economy). I hope you are doing well with it. My application requires the robot to start itself at random times and execute a set routine. I was considering a battery device but getting back to the charger is always a challenge. Also it is a an outdoor rough terrain application. My question is - can the quad rover start itself ?

--If you attach a starter motor to it. Shouldn't be too bad, it would just go in place of the starter coil. If you know anybody who can work with metal it would be easy. All you need to do is find a small 12v motor strong enough to spin the shaft.

In my opinion it would be difficult to retrofit a starter motor on such a small motor. I don't see any off the shelf solutions. Yes i could be done , but at what cost?

A battery powered solution would be a better out in the field if it will be on it's own for days. Recharge via solar panels, after all, how is going to get gas? Charging is no challenge. There are plenty of charging circuits out there. Google is you friend.

Now putting a 2.5 HP electric motor in to drive the hydraulics might be a challenge.

I'll put a bet on it an 18v drill motor could start it. If it's like the·engine I have there are bars comming out of it--maybe for air flow--that could easily connect the motor to the engine if there is a plate connected to the motor that fits over them (if that makes any sense to you).
