Newbie Starter Kit Selection Question

Hi All,
This is my first post. I'm a bit confused as to what is the basic board ideal for someone to start exploring with Propeller? I have some experience working with Atmel(Read Arduino) / PIC mcus and looking forward expand my horizon. I would ideally like something low-cost & programmable over USB with Pinouts for breadboarding. What would be a good board to start with?
Cheers,
Pracas

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should use WD40.
The Propeller Proto board with USB is another solution. Don't forget to buy the VGA/PS2 connector kit with it as it is a special connector. There is a breadboard are on this plus a power supply and the PropPlug equivalent on the pcb.

Isn't it similar to the ones you find on computers? why is it special? I think i have seen some similar connectors available... but wouldn't know how special these were???

I have used something cheap and near the Arduino board : the Propeller Platform (see Gadget Gangster) . You need to buy also a proplug to load programs on this platform.
The Parallax Propeller Education Kit is more expensive but you can download a large documentation and a lot of exemples from the Parallax site.
Can't i make one with FTDI? I have a bunch of FTDI Converters lying around? isn't it as simple as giving RX, TX & a common ground?
Massimo
Parallax has several great resources, documents and labs for downloading and reading and learning and doing stuff with the Propeller. These resources are free too!
Pay attention to the daily deals. Every now and again there is a great deal on Propeller kits or products.
If you have various FTDI breakout boards then you can use that in place of the Prop Plug.

Just FYI, the Propeller Tool Software package is a free download that includes the Propeller Manual and Propeller Education Kit Labs books as PDF files, and all the example code for both books is already in the Tool's library. The PDFs are accessible through the Help file. The Help file also contains a step-by-step getting started tutorial that is designed for the Propeller Demo Board.

Will work for Propeller parts!
In addition to the demoboard, protoboard and Propeller Platform - the hydra is great if your primary interest is video / videogames. Mikronauts' Propteus is also cool. Just dropping a DIP Propeller on a breadboard works, too.
I'm interested in finding out how adapting from an AVR or PIC to a Propeller goes, you should keep us posted.

Yes, the FTDI will work with the addition of a transistor & resistors and cap (see the PropPlug circuit in the Parallax Store). The LEDs are optional of course.
