Txb0801 Voltage level converters for prop servo board problem.

I've been working on an interesting project using the propeller servo controller. Right now I'm using it to control an AIR Hockey playing Robot using a real Air Hockey table.

Today I had a bit of dissapointment when I could not get my encoders to be read by the propeller chip. The voltage would swing between 3.5V and 0V when the prop chip was attached and between 5V and 0V when the prop chip was unattached.

This is consistant with loading... So does anyone know how to easily overcome this problem with the propeller servo controller board?

I tried different sample inputs and it seems that only really beefy 5V driver circuits cause the TXB0801's to activate while my·non beefy encoders do not.

I was planning on using some of the other pins for bus lines and such in the project but now after looking at the schematic for the voltage level converters I'm guessing they would not work for that either.

I'm thinking a 7407 Hex buffer will fix the problem but since it only works one way I can't have two way communication.

So... what do I do?
