Hello,

Yesterday I wrote a message that was deleted within 24 hours, allegedly was a "political message", says Parallax people.

The comment was really about global economy, a healthy commentary, without hurting anybody.

I was searching the forum rules, but not found.

I ask because I have seen comments that it causes me discomfort, but people of Parallax not deleted.

Just comments on economy are banned here?

Thanks.

    Luis,

This is a technical forum. Topics which are solely political or religious, for example, can incite passions that are not conducive to civil discourse. I'm the one (or one of the ones) who flagged your post to the moderators, so I'm at least partly responsible for its removal. Although your topic did touch on the matters that you cite, it also included content that was potentially inflammatory. There are forums available for that sort of commentary, but my feeling was that the Parallax forum is not one of them; and, apparently, the forum moderators agreed. I'm sorry if you're upset by this, and I look forward to your continued (and more customary) positive technical contributions to the Parallax forum.

    Con respecto,
    -Phil

I know this is a technical forum, and I always discuss technical issues, but I see a lot of people talking about other things, including some that make me feel bad, but not deleted.

    Why?

I do not feel bad, I just wonder what are the rules.

    Luis,

The forums rules are posted in the Announcements board in the sticky thread at the top. I did not remove your current message but in the past I have removed many messages that were solely about politics and/or religion and had no other information relevant to the topic of the forums. As Phil said, these are subjects that many people are passionate about and you can quickly end up with what is termed as a flame war by posting opinions on subjects that people passionately defend of their beliefs.

As a note this can happen even when on topic, such as debates about who makes the best or fastest microcontroller and you will often see posts directed at certain forum members noting displeasure or disbelief that they would say such things on a Parallax forum, however, once it gets out of hand, if we see it or someone complains even these will be removed or edited for content.

The bottom line is that these forums are a resource. Members should be able to come here and ask questions, get answers and share technical information. As a community there will often be some personal dialogue, but one thing members don't come here to see are current political or religious news. For those things you should seek the appropriate message board.

I saw the rules, but have to be honest, nobody complies, even Parallax. smile.gif

I would suggest a comment that I find inappropriate.

    Thanks for the clarifications.

Luis, if it makes you feel any better, in the past messages posted by Parallax employees have been removed as well. We sometimes make mistakes as well and the members are empowered to call us out just the same as anyone else. Best Regards,

I repeat again: I do not feel bad, and I think you have done the right thing.

But I see no right to maintain other inappropriate comments, even after having been reported.

roll.gif Let's move on to another topic, this is now repeated.
