Moving toward N64 controllers?

I'm thinking that it is past time for a move toward N64 controllers over the NES stuff.

Has anyone got an leads on N64 female connectors? The objects are certainly ready.

Thoughts?

Sourcing the N64 controller connectors could be a little tricky, since there are not nearly as many hardware "clones" available for that system.

Wouldn't the Wii Nunchuck be a logical next step? There was an object (in the OBEX?) for that as well.

    Point taken...

I've asked KenG about the possibility of sourcing some N64 connectors like he did with the NES.
The attraction is the bang for the single pin count.

You're right, I should take a second look at the Wii stuff.

    @OBC,
I mention it because it is more "modern," and there is a PCB available at SparkFun or FunGizmos ("WiiChuck Adapter"). Most likely the same design could be incorporated into other PCB's as well.

You can go into the local gaming or retail store and buy a Wii Nunchuck. The N64, you don't necessarily have that option.

Wonder if Nick could work in a Wii connection into his next version of El Judagor? :)

That would be an interesting upgrade.

What about a PlayStation joypad? there's nicer joypads, and more inputs, there's also an object in the OBEX :D

    >Playstation

We bump back into the problem of connectors again..
Maybe it's also time to write a unversal controller driver.... :)

The wii might be a better bet - it can be done with a cutout on the pcb, it runs at 3.3v, uses i2c, and you could use a Classic controller or a nunchuck (very cheap accelerometer)

I could do something like the nunchucky (here), combined with video / audio and SD.

Downside is the cable is pretty short, maybe 3 feet.

Classic controllers aren't everywhere, but they're probably easier to get than an N64 controller. Also, the classic controller is better than N64.

Won't you only get one controller though? or can you set it's i2c address?
