robotic controller board question

I am new to the propeller chip.
Can i take the the 3.3v from the robotics board to a breadboard and the ground and signal pin from the 5v servo header instead of soldering from the robotics board?
will this give me the right connection to do the PE kit labs?

Propeller IOs are not 5V tolerant. If the robotics board has the same ground as the servo board, yes.

I thought they were as long as you used a resistor to keep the current within the propeller's limits.

That is true, just without a resistor they are not 5v tolerant.

I'm guessing you are just trying to get ground, 3.3v and 5v from the robot board to a breadboard. You can take 5v and gnd from a servo connector without a problem, I'm not sure where you get 3.3v from on the board but if it is there you can use it. Just don't try to use a propeller pin as a 3.3v supply.

Graham, the MSR1 board (parallax robot controller) has a socket where you can pick 3.3V from. I have used it.
