prop pager

anyone know were i can find a pager that can easily be hacked? i want the case and screen only. figure it would likely be cheaper then getting a tiny screen and custom made case. there does need to be enough room in it for a prop and rtc though so a tiny screen may be the way to go.

that is a good price. yes ebay would be good for 1 off though I am hoping to make lots after i build my prototype. maybe i will just by a bunch of cheap pagers off ebay and see what I can hack.

You might want to get 1 and see if you can hack it before getting more. A lot of those guys have big lots and keep offering the same thing over and over, and they can cut you a bulk deal if you want a batch. A big company might have upgraded all of its pagers at the same time and unloaded the old ones on a surplus dealer. In fact eBay is mostly dealers nowadays, they have driven out most of the actual garage trade with fees and other nuisances.

If you find a hackable pager, I'd love to know about it. They do seem to be really good development boxes for the propeller or other microcontrollers.

Probably a bit bigger than what you are looking for, but look at Polycase's VM-24 Boot Series. The boot has a belt loop feature.

I used to have my wife's old Motorola Bravo pager in my project boxes from the early 90s. I'll see if it's still there and take it apart if so.

Also, depending on what you are after, why not use a standard small plastic project case from Polycase, PacTec, etc, etc and then buy beltclip style velcro phone cases to put them in?

Have you looked into restaurant pagers or nursery pagers for other ideas? (they are way overpriced)
