DIY Linear Scale

·Last week I completed a shop press that I have been working on for awhile. On of the reasons I built it was so I could use it as a press brake, or better yet a CNC press brake (propeller power a must). I am to tight to run out and buy a linear scale so I dug out a bunch of stuff and made my own.

·I used a HEDS encoder and a rack and pinion drive system to measure movement·. I tested it out and have a 1000 counts per inch from the encoder ,the next step is to wire every thing up and see how it works.

·If everything works out, someday I'll be able to control everything in my shop from the house tongue.gif

Tried the system out today ,ran it 100 cycles and it stayed within +/- .015 Really not that bad for a all hydralic sytem.

You could probably improve on that with a "home reset"...

    John,

·I installed a prox. home switch on the up stroke·and zero the count every time it see's it (ever cycle). It brought it down to +/- .011 . I set the·downward stroke to·3000 counts and it seems to jump around a little bit on the stop . 2990 ,3005, 3013,2998 ,2985 ,3003, ect.

Edit: Here is the Propeller code If anyone is interested ,It's not pretty and I'm just using it to test. It·goes to show you·almost anyone can program the propeller tongue.gif
