Javelin not found on any port

Hi,

I've been struggling for a while trying to download a program to my Javelin stamp for the first time. I tried on my two laptops (Lenovo R61 Win XP, Dell Latitude E4300 Win XP), using two different USB to Serial cables. My Javelin seems to be properly connected (based on the instructions in the manual) and powered, judging by the bright green led on the Javelin Stamp Demo Board. I get the following error message from the IDE:

[IDE-0054] Unable to find a Javelin on any port.

I checked the device manager to make sure the right COM port was set in the IDE. I also installed the FTDI driver from parallax website. One of my USB to Serial cable is a ATEN UC-232A. The other's a Campbell Scientific SC-USB.

Please help me fix this problem, I'm dying to start playing with my Javelin!!!!!!

Cheers, Guillaume

I forgot to mention one thing: I haven't tested it with a different serial cable, maybe that's the problem. I'll do it tomorrow and tell you how it goes. Fingers crossed..

I just noticed that the error messages differ depending on which laptop I try the Javelin on. On my Dell I get this one:

[Error IDE-0006] Could not open the serial port: (null)

On this laptop when I click "Refresh" in the "Identify" window of the IDE, I don't see the "scanning..." besides "Port Status:" in the upper part of the window. I could see it on my Lenovo.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi all,

I tried with the javelin_usbtest.exe IDE and using that version, it finds my Javelin using both laptops, but only with the ATEN usb to serial cable.

But I'm not there yet.. The problem now is:

[Error IDE-0022] Error reading from the serial port (timeout)

I didn't find any solution for this problem on the forum. Could someone give me a hint here please?

    Thanks!

ok, I read that the USB to Serial adapter sold by Parallax did fix this problem for other people who had the same problem. I guess this is the next thing to try. I'll keep you posted.
