Setting of a rocket using a mobile phone

I had this idea . Using an old mobile phone I was thining of setting off a rocket by rining the phone, the speaker wires I was going to use to power transistors to actvae transistors to send the electronic charge to operate the transistors. I just thought it would be fun to launch the rocket by calling the phone and instead of it rining I would divert the current to operate the transistors ?

Is this far fetched ? (i am not a terrorists, im talking about a model rocket :)

It's not far-fetched but probably unsafe. You need to consider the possibility of someone else calling the cellphone at an inopportune time and setting it off prematurely. It would be better if it could answer the phone and respond to a specially-coded DTMF sequence.

Even better would be to send it a specially coded SMS.

Having it fire the rocket just be ringing sounds REALLY dangerous.
(Some phones make a lot of noise when they run out of power, among other things... )

Hmm. Obviously people do this already, mostly in order to commit acts of violence. As a project, it doesn't sound that interesting to me. I'm very involved in rocketry, and while we use wireless launch controllers occasionally (though not very often), I cannot imagine using a launch controller that could be activated by anyone, even someone not present at the launch. With wireless controllers a LOT of care is taken to make sure that there is only one button that can launch the rocket, and that button is in the hands of the person controlling the launch. I have a wireless controller for ejection charges (used to deploy a parachute when I push a button), and the transmitter box never leaves my hands after the receiver is powered up until both charges have been fired.

Besides that, you need to be aware that rocket exhaust - either BP or AP - is very corrosive to circuitry. If your cell phone were exposed to it, it would have a fairly short life.

    You're wrong, obviously.

Have you forgotten that you mentioned terrorism first?
