basic stamp not found - help please.

My son·got the basic stamp Homework board for Christmas and was able to set it up and run the first 'hello' program.· Today he was continuing in the book to the next activity and now the basic stamp is not found.· We set the use FIFO Buffers to unchecked as recommended in trouble shooting.· But we still see the com6 with a blank device and version and yes in the loopback and echo columns of the identification window.
The old thing that has changed is that we installed Norton 360 on our pc in early January.· I turned off the firewall thinking that might be it - but it still did not find the basic stamp.
Can you recommend anything else we can try?· Thanks for your help.

    NEVERMIND!· We were sure it wasn't the battery, so we skipped that check.· Of course it was the battery!!· So sorry for wasting your time.
