Breakout boards for 3.5" Touch Screen
Ok I have designed the schematic/parts and have the PCB roughed in for Rays 3.5" LCD I wish to send out for a proto type batch on friday so you have until then to make any requests.
Price will be $24.99 US+10 Shiping world wide. I will not be taking orders until I have verified the prototypes.
Here are the options I can think of. Please vote on them or pencil in other options
a) Breakout board with generic header.
Pros: Gives 24 bit color, will work with any platform.
Cons: Requires lots of fly wires or the making of a custome PCB.
b) Half gadget gangster board.
Pros: Can be used on either half of the gadget gangster platform.
Cons: Only 6 bit colour.
c) Full gadget gangster platform board.
Pros: Plug in like any other gadget gangster module
Cons: Will cost $5 a board more because of large size. Also only 6 bit
d) Dip 40 adapter.
Pros: can be soldered to a dip 40 prop and used on any platform with enough space(leads of prop go into existing board.)
Cons: Only 6 bit, would cost $0.50 more for thinner PCB.
I am leaning towards b or d what do you think?

Perhaps there's a way to make it easy for both of these setups...
Also, I think it may have to be a full size for the Prop Platform because I think it'll need 1 or 2 more pins than are available on one side... (but I could be wrong about that).

Even even at 12 or 15bit photos start to look a LOT better. And you'd still have a lot of pins available on the prop for other stuff.

I think that's more a job for Prop II (still waiting!)

I am hoping to have enough free time next week to get it running.

A palette scheme would help too. More precise color control with a limited number colors at a time still gives better results than not having it...
it was just a suggestion, I can always just get the 24bit breakout board for the other display and reduce it to 18/15/12 by tying pins together (with appropriate resisters or whatever).

Ray's 320x240 display needs only 76,800 bytes for an 8 bit frame buffer, and refreshing that at 60Hz only needs 4.608MB/sec (out of the potential 20MB/sec max bus bandwidth)
Ray's 480x272 display needs 130,560 bytes for an 8 bit frame buffer, and refreshing that at 60Hz needs 7.8336MB/sec
I have ten of Ray's 480x272 displays, and two of mctrivia's breakouts for it - I will get that running soon.
I will probably pick up a couple of the $10 3.5" displays, and breakouts for it too - matthew (mctrivia) makes great breakout boards.
Morpheus has LOTS of external memory, with 512KB on Morpheus itself, and each Mem+ board adds a further 2MB, so frame buffer sizes are not a limitation for me :)

Instead of making 1 boards I make 2.
1) LCD Breakout board that is compatible with my 4.5" Breakout board but with a few extra pins.
2) A gadget gangster to X converter.
if i do this way the breakouts will be smaller and very few changes will be needed for products to switch. And I can get the large gadget X converter boards made in bulk bringing down the price.
What do you think?
