Price and release date: Parallax to comment on details. There is a lot of work to do to get the product created and working.

PoE - I believe this was addressed earlier in this thread, or maybe it was another thread. The unit is designed to be a low cost unit for adding to various projects. At this time I PoE isn't being included. But since this project is open source (all schematics, design and source files published) I suspect we as a community could make a similar module with PoE capability.

Tim, as far as low cost. Wouldn't you think it would be cheaper to include it in the design, than each user spend $6-12 on each A/C adapter for each case it's used? Then again from what I can tell 4 port PoE 'injector' hubs are about $100, but sure would seem 'cleaner'. Then again 'low cost' is relative, right now.

Just a thought. Not sure how involved it would be, as of yet.

The first batch of Spinneret prototypes came back from manufacturing today, and I have one of them running. I haven't verified everything yet, and there were a few parts where we ordered the wrong package, but I am able to talk to the W5100 from the Propeller in SPI, and it responds to pings.

Excellent! A shot in the arm to get back to the SPI and Indirect drivers.

Last weekend I dug up my notes and reminded myself where I left off. I started working on the indirect driver last weekend and I'm planning to continue the work this weekend.

We have finished what should be the final layout for the first production run of the Spinenret Web Server. I have updated the schematic in the top post. The largest change is that the yellow LED in the Ethernet socket will now mimic the user LED connected to P23 on the Propeller.

I have attached a screen shot of the bottom side of the PCB as a bit of a teaser. Expect to see the PCB released in a month or so.

Now that's a sweet PCB! Going to have to put that in a see through case.

    • UDP
    • TCP/IP
    • DHCP
    • DNS client
    • HTTP
    • Dynamical variables within HTTP files served from an SD card
    • A default web interface
    • FTP
    • SMTP
    • POP
    • Serial interface to other microcontrollers for dynamic HTTP pages
    • A command protocol compatible with our upcoming WiFi module (for changing settings remotely)
    • An open source GUI for connecting and changing settings from a PC (yes that includes Apple's PCs running OS X)

And this are some more advanced features that are still on the table:

    • DDNS
    • NTP client
    • Parallel SD card support
    • IMAP
    • SSL/TLS
    • SSH
    • A secure version of the command protocol (for changing settings remotely over an insecure network)
    • SOAP support, or some form of generic XML support

That's a lot to implement on the Spinneret. I imagine there will be a suite of objects? I'd be happy to help or test.
