You need a 2.2K resistor between the two pins. The Stamps provide a 0V-5V logic signal and the 5V is too high for the Propeller I/O pins which only accept 0V-3.3V. The resistor, by limiting the maximum current to 0.5mA, will allow the Propeller I/O pin to work with the Stamp's I/O pin.
I've done it with open-true baud mode, with a pull-up on the Propeller rx pin to 3.3v (use 4.7K). Per Mike's point, you don't want to use a driven mode without the [noparse][[/noparse]inline] 2.2K resistor to protect the Propeller side.
