we've been using these led strips at wok for some time now, replacing flourescent tubes in sets, they work really well although they have a strobing effect in the blue region on the vectorscope showing a very slight colour shift on camera
I could use two rolls of cool white, one roll of blue and some warm white in the near future. Please let us know what color choices are available when you can. Does the Light Tape come in a 24 volt version? I'd like to use this product for lighting in industrial control and automation cabinets... I think it would be a great application, easy to install and low-profile for small spaces.
Thank you,
Tim
Edit: Please consider taking this product on-board as a permanent offering if it is high quality.
It's been a couple of months Ken... what's the word on this product? I have potential clients who would like to see samples soon and news would be appreciated for planning purposes. I'd rather support Parallax than look for another source. Have answers to the previous post questions?
Hey all, yes, I have a bunch of this stuff. This week I'll sort out what I've got and prices for it, too. On a recent trip to China we bought about $600 of it - we'll provide it to you at our cost. It wasn't cheap, just so you know. Our cost is about the same as you'd find on eBay for other Shenzhen component market suppliers.
Thanks for responding Ken... It's looking like my client is moving toward another style lighting product but I'll be watching between now and Wednesday is case they stick to the original plan.
I took another good look at what is available here in Taiwan. They sell the tape in roughly 1/2 meter lengths and it appears to allow you to extend it to any length while mixing colors.
So, it seems the Taiwan format is ready for people that want to combine colors. This might be a better format if Parallax wants to stock it as a regular item.

Today is the day. Last week we started a bit of a fire in the Propeller forum with our PMC compiler idea, and it distracted me from my primary mission (err, primary interests: hobby!).
This is what I have:
==============
(2) rolls of WHITE - $40/roll or $20 for half roll ===== WHITE IS SOLD OUT!
(4) rolls of BLUE - $40/roll or $20 for half roll
(2) rolls of RGB - $60/roll (no half roll - too neat to seperate given the demo purposes with the IR controller) ====== RGB IS SOLD OUT!
3/8" wide and 16' long. 12VDC. Draws about 2.5A with 16 feet lit up.
If you order a half roll you get 8 feet, and you may need to add your own wires.
The above prices are what we paid in Shenzhen, China component markets. Seems expensive, but it's amazingly competetive (everybody sells this stuff, and even our Chinese staff couldn't get better prices).
The RGB rolls are amazing - they include a power supply and IR remote control (documentation on that available below) for all kinds of tricks - light fading, strobe, color mixing. I'm most impressed - never plugged them in until today! A YouTube video is below. I'm sure you could control these the same way from a microcontroller, or even mimic the IR LED commands more easily instead of dealing with the driving circuitry.
This is how you order:
==============
Working "out of the system" causes lots of problems in Parallax for our crew, so you've got to follow this part carefully so I don't have a mutiny.
(a) Send money via PayPal to ebaysales@parallax.com (no worry about shipping, we'll cover it for domestic purchases)
(b) Identify in your comments which roll (or half portion thereof, excluding RGB which is only sold by the whole roll)
(c) Send a copy of your receipt to kgracey@parallax.com so I know what you ordered. This will allow me to keep track of what we have
I will update this thread when we are out of tape LEDs.
I'd really quite like a roll of white and a roll of RGB, but given shipping will kill me and the white was gone before I even got out of bed last time.. if you're ordering again and could see you're way to putting a couple aside, I'll be in it like a rat up a drainpipe..

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should use WD40.
BradC: I'll get a few more RGB/white rolls on order and send them to you. Give me four weeks - I'm more like a sloth going up a tree instead of a rat in a drainpipe.
Any Idea if I could waterproof this? It looks like it would be good for the area lights (as opposed to dive lights for forward lighting) on a Remote-controlled submarine I'm building (which has a BS2 as part of the control system by the way)
Well, probably about 15-20 per foot. That's enough to make a consistent light when used as a backlight application. A direct view will show many small LEDs which may appear quite blinding.

I'll definatly be interested in the rgb and white, will you be selling it by the roll or the foot?
I'd prefer by the role as it'll be much easier to manage. But we'll see how it goes.
I'll take inventory of what I've got on Wednesday and post the photos and instructions on how to purchase.
