Being that it is a "tech" school you would think the principal would check closer before sounding the alarms.

That will teach him to never experiment with electronics again. The science teacher should be given an apple.

Feal bad for him, espessially when people start saying "authorities were recommending that he and his parents get counseling."

Good point. This makes me wonder if there is more to the story.

I wonder too if there is more to the story. What we're hearing here simply doesn't make any sense. In particular, I can't imagine what the "counseling" would be for (and I'm a psychology professor).

The story was discussed a week ago on another forum I frequent, and there was·a lot of speculation about what we're not getting.

The news is macabre consumer entertainment product just like all the cop shows before it.
Good news is out of style.
In case we forgot, lookup the Boston ATHF Mooninite Terror Panic.
Boston saw some LED/LiteBrite and cried 9/11!
They arrested an MIT student with a blinking LED on her back at an airport.
MIT denied knowing that student at first.
They arrested a child with Play Doh.

I once suggested that if Hollywood is going to use BASIC STAMPS as evil props,
then we should make a movie for Public Access Channel about viruses on DVDs BSoDing a power plant
and causing a meltdown... or something like that.
of course I'll remind everyone that in November, all airports BSoD'd SIMULTANEOUSLY after a decade
of random airport BSoDs, sorry, drifting off topic.

I brought hundreds of electronics projects throughout my entire schooling.
MANY OF THEM HAD 7 SEGMENT DISPLAYS ON THEM. ONE WAS A LEARNING GAME.
I'm sure only in the movies have 7-segment displays ever gone kabluey.
Everyone believes in fiction now?
In 1983, Peter Schilling sung a song making fun of USA as being ruled by Mickey Mouse. "LET'S PLAY USA".
It made no sense to me then... but now has it ever been more of an "amusement park"?
Someone recently recalled the definition or roots of the word "a-muse" as "without thinking".
I think I was in senior class when a new policy first had teachers chasing me down the hall trying to steal my Walkman.
Where is the American "brain drain" and where will we go if we all jump in?

DUDE! chill out! there was a problem earlier on the parallax website that gave me the same error, that later cleared up. so i guess it affected the forums website too. if you are this insecure online, (as noted in another·thread authored by you)·then i suggest either:

a) build your own internet network with a 50 story building full of firebox firewalls, satellites and fiber optic networks.

b) apologize with cookies and chocolates to whom ever you P*$$%d·off at NSA.

c) accept the fact that the internet (aka World Wide Web) is just that, a network of other networks connected by satellites, fiber optics and copper wire that are·only as strong as the weakest link.

Sorry, but things like this happen all the time, just not only to you, that can be caused by countless numbers of reasons. if you have a good firewall and good antivirus, you are as well protected as the rest of us, and anyone that presumes that anything on our pc's or traffic we generate on the internet is secure is sadly mistaken. it's a fact of life and buried deep inside the terms of service of every, and i mean EVERY internet service subscriber contract or agreement.

I apologize for hi-jacking this thread, but i just had to vent.shakehead.gif· Therefore i will reluctantly wear the Cone of Shame.

Do me a favour?

Get someone to play this song LOUDLY outside the school during every recess for a week...

You know, because it has "bomb" in it...

Also, it's incredibly annoying when the kids start humming the refrain off-key...

About twenty years ago they would have simply confiscated it, called the parents and maybe gave the student detention.

Today they call the police to give discipline.

Without charges or police being called the school has nothing; it was just a·gatorade bottle.· Now that the school called police they have an argument "we called the police" and make the student's life·miserable.· It is no different than the six year old boyscout in Delaware who brought a boyscout issued spork to school.

I tend to agree. One of my favorite small pleasures of college life is that I can now carry a pocket knife. I don't need to worry about getting in trouble, as long as it's <= 2.5".

Maybe it's just here but I've seen cigarettes, chewing tobacco, alcohol, lighters, butane cans, firecrackers, and knives brought into my high school and nobody was caught. I've even heard of people storing shotguns in their trucks parked right next to the school! Makes it surprising when a little kid can bring something far less dangerous to a school and cause the police to come over and disrupt everything. Stupid, really.

Compare and contrast the Iraq war with this incident.· The accusation was made there were alleged weapons from dual use technology and there are people divided on the whole war.· I'm not trying to start a political discussion but a lot of people were against the war and still are.· They say it was wrong to invade but on the other side, we have kids who bring a butter knife or a steak knife to school and we're wasting police resources to parent·kids which is the job of the parents and possibly school administrators.· If the Iraq war was wrong because of all these items that could be used for dual use never materialized into anything important then isn't going after all of these kids wrong because they showed improper judgment?

We're giving away our freedoms because everyone is scared and there are people who don't care as long as they get to their destination and there are administrators who don't want to be seen doing nothing.· The problem is, if you don't know enough about a kid in the first place, should they be going to school?· And if you do know enough about them, should they be calling the police instead of their parents?

The San Diego paper omitted the part where the Fire Department spokesman said the student was "a genius-type kid" who undertook the project on his own and had no intentions of hurting anyone or causing any disruptions.· The paper seemed to portray the kid as someone who we will need to "watch" in the future.·· This looks like the kind of Smile reporting that is helping to kill newspapers.· They never print retractions for "errors of omission".

As a younger person on the world this Pisses me Off ..

there re kids that assault Nerds like me In shop class with a 1/4 nail gun and walk Scott free evan After I called the cops ,,
and this poor student here is scarfed for life for bringing a bottle to class ..

I am SO glad I am Out of Useless HS stuf . And going on my second college degree ..
If you all seen the stuff I bring to class you would be shocked .. no pun .. last week I brought a old Defibrillator to use as a 5KV cap charger for a Coil gun .. No Big Deal ..
360J anyone !

In HS I never learned anything I use today that pertains to my field of study ..
I learned more on physics from building large Tesla coils than my HS class.
I feel that anyone who has the will to study at a CC Vs a HS should be able to and avoid this socal touture called HS .

I hope this Kid's parents Home school him and help him push his knowledge of Electronics ..

Ever have anyone burn you with rod? That was a problem for me last year when idiots would bend it back and forth to heat it up and touch it to peoples necks.

I fullheartedly agree that most of HS is pointless, but at least I have the chance to learn welding now at a low cost of $35 per tri. Other than that...who cares.

No but we did charge up car condensers (caps) and play hot potato In Auto class. ( I wore Nitrill gloves so I did not get shocked LOLs !
after said nail gun issue, I left early 2ed HS year for my own safety and got homeschooling ..
I was on line All the time on places like discover circuits .com and the like and makeing so many cool things that I walked in to college knowing 60% of everything i needed to know for my degree ..

I am disabled I can't write ( dysgraphya ) so being Home schooled saved my life ! .. I made in in to college and graduated in spring 09' .
so I guess the whole thing that happened in HS was a gift and curse ..
As for welding used to I MIG and TIG , my self back when I was younger :)
I like the college I am at ,I get to kinda do My own thing .. Instead of working on Programing Lego Mind-storm robots, I get to play with a BS2 in class and write any code I want ...
BTW the 2 completed Projects I posted here were for a grade . I am working on 2 more ..

I get to have access to sweet top of the line test gear .. And a I love the Proffs here ,,, thay are So understanding of me being different.

so when I see kids being tortured for being "smart" It rubs me the wrong way .

I Hope this student does not stop learning about the world around him.

So maybe that's why I call my self stupid? But really it's for more tangible reasons than just that.

I had to look up your disorder--somewhat reminds me of someone in my grade missing a pencil tip sized piece of his brain that makes it hard for him to talk and write. I remember having to ask him questions on every other sentence of his essay in English because his words were so messed up. I've always wondered though, since the brain is so malleable can certain troubles be paved over from brain excercizes? It seems that if taxi drivers in London can double the size of a brain lobe responsible for generating maps surely scientists could find ways around disorders like autism? But, that's just been a curiosity of mine, not that I could try it out in any way though.

I'm glad to see you're one of those people that had things work out alright after a while though, not all are that lucky.
