What are dB mode and log mode?

In the analog view in the Spectrum Analyzer are buttons for dB and log mode.· Why/when would I select one or the other or both?

    Hi John,
    Different people like different things. The buttons give a total of 4 combinations for viewing the same data. dB mode takes the log base 10 of the magnitude (y axis). Log mode shows the frequencies increasing exponentially, not linearly (x axis).
