This is an interesting video. Always thought getting one of these child riding jeeps would be a good instant platform for a larger sized bot.

Super concept. So when do you start on your Power Wheels robot? :):):)

You can get good deals on used Power Wheels at yard sales & Craigslist. I have a highly modded Power Wheels jeep in my den at home. Hundreds of manhours, multiple SLA batteries and multiple processors involved. Dramatic. I'll Youtube it later. Better seen than described.

    Guys,

I took one apart a few years ago and saved the motors and good stuff. I was plan to build a yard-bot one day. The motors are strong! They also run along time. My kids had many miles on the thing!

Ahhhh Erco....I do need someone to light a fire under my Smile! My telepresence robot project has been on hold now for too long. I need to get out of collecting info & reading mode and into DOING mode. Just a while ago u asked people to post what they were working on & have should have done so! It basically incorporates a Rogue Blue robotics base + Robonova arm + Linksys webcam + 2 picaxe mcu's. Use it thru the Pink Netburner. I call it the AxeNova!

Back to subject at hand: Whit (or erco) , what volt rating are those motors? And how big does one really need?

There are 6 and 12 volt power wheels models, depending on the size, speed, and number of riders. Interesting fact: Fisher Price, who makes the Power Wheels brand, never sells the motor module units to the public, only to authorized repair centers. They may occasionally show up at a surplus shop, but never in quantity and probably used.·Safety consideration, I suppose. Pity, they are strong and have big beefy gears, although they are not·simple to mechanically hook up to different wheels.

They use a lot of current. Got SLA batteries?

From what I've seen the motors are the same as those in cordless drills, so 12v is fine, and 18 as well. I have one I'm just using at 12v and it works well, I'm sure the voltage could be lowered if necessary.

erco is correct. Six and twelve volts is the standard on these. Mine are 12 volt.

Older, OOP 12V FP Go-Karts are especially tough, and many have been modded to 24 volts with decent reliability carrying grown men.

    Shameful, but fun!
