BASIC Stamp & Accelerometer

Let me first say that the Basic Stamp is totally new to me. I do have some experience with electronics and computer programming.

I'm working with my son on a science fair project idea where we want to measure the forces inside a football helmet using different types of material for protection. I've been doing some research and I think this may be possible by using a BASIC Stamp with an Accelerometer.

Can anyone tell me if this approach will work?

Looks like I will have to spend about $100 for the BASIC Stamp getting started kit plus another $35 for the accelerometer????

I don't think you will get meaningful data that will show much of a difference with that setup.

Any thoughts then on how we might be able to measure the impact?

I would think you would need to measure pressure or transfer of force from the outside of the helmet to the inside.
