Parallax didn't drop it. This was made by 4D Systems and you'll have to ask them. I suspect that there was relatively low volume in sales and they have their own graphics processor that's used in most of their product line that the uOLED-96-Prop competed with. It is a nice product. I have two in a drawer that are waiting for the right project.
I too, liked the product, but it was very picky about powering up and powering down. If you didn't do it by the book, or you had a power glitch, the thing would look at you with a blank stare, forever. I have two now that just perform as a Propeller with 4 I/O pins. And watch out for burn-in on OLED.
That said, Dontronics is the last place I bought some a couple of months ago, and the·price and shipping were rather resonable from OZ. They still have some in stock. They may be they last ones on earth to have them, as I have been chasing stock for these for a few months.

It was very nice. :( It really inspired a lot of the things I've done here...
I love those little things. When I saw Parallax dropping them I got several more from 4D as spares, to power various and sundry projects. They're sort of like miniature BOE's.
I liked the uOLED as well and I also have a couple of them that I have used for various proof-of-concept ideas. Beyond the powerup/down stuff, I also found the screen a bit fragile. I am sure some little development kit could be created to protect the screen. As for the lwo count of I/O, I had a kit briefly on Brilldea that was an I/O expansion board. A couple people on the forum purchased them from me. I learned a lot from making that kit and working with the surface mount components.

I got a uOLED 128 hooked it up and ran the graphics demo. The first time I ran it, it was missing like 10 lines. I gently tapped and it promptly died. I'm designing a system for a marine environment and instantly decided this thing is way to fragile for that. Made a decision to just interface with a netbook via USB, lots more functionality comparatively and the netbook has already survived over a year at sea so far.
Just seemed right to go with propeller for processor gh since I'm sometimes powered by one. Sailboats rule.
