Modifying a usb to serial adapter virtual com port issue!

I recently purchased a usb to serial adapter from Tiger Direct. The adapter would not update on my 64 bit windows 7, dell studio 1537 laptop so i used the install cd that came in the package. When i tried to find the com port to use it to upload my code to the BS2 it would not show the com port (the cd installed the driver and made it a virtual com port at com 20) and wouldn't find or recognize the port. Is there a fix for this?

try changing the com port number to a lower value under windows device manager, try a com port number of 8 or less. alot of programs have trouble recognizing com ports higher than 8-10.

I tried that but windows device manager wouldn't let me change the com value so I manually changed the registry for it and i had no success...

Go into device manager and show hidden devices. Then with the device disconnected remove all hidden usb devices then reboot and see what you get.
