stripboards in the usa?

Okay- so I have a question. When I was in the UK, I used 'veroboards' or stripboards which seemed to make prototyping a lot easier. For circuits that just wont fit on a breadboard (high amps and such) this was great. But I just can't seem to find any vendors that sell stripboards in the USA. So why are they so hard to find?

Anybody know of a few good vendors? I see I could get some stuff on 'ebay' but most of the suppliers are from UK. smile.gif

    Nomenclature is everything.

Post Edit -- Oh, that's 'stripboard' then?· I've been at this a long time and haven't seen that before.· I've used one of those tools, I guess, but as a "pad cutter."· Anyway, I'm into fiberglass with plated-thru holes with a ground plane on one side; that's how I've done almost everything·for > 12 years.· I've done some PCBs·with ink-blobs·on copper and·still some hacked "protoboards", too, if convenient/warranted.· Time, effort, my "mood", whatever.

Well that's protoboard - yes, but not stripboard.
    stripboard looks like this motor-board-reverse.jpg
You essentially use a little 5mm drill bit to remove where you don't want. You can also use a cutting tool for precision cuts to seperate 2 adjacent holes.

The same happened to me some time ago. When I look for something I come with the spanish name... but what is that in german ? they have sometimes descriptive names other times they are just colorful. A line pattern ... board would be a "Streifenrasterplatine"... I wouldn't come to such a name using the dictionary... If anyone knows btw how the wire to do "wire-wrap" is called (in german) and where to find it... it is not a lacked wire.

That's an interesting technique. You must have some form of special tool to cut the holes from the ground-plane. Do you find you do less soldering using this type of board: Is it easy to isolate a 'bus' so to speak? Just curious.

You mean the pad-cutting?· This tool makes a circle in a sea of copper ground plane.· I use·my own·once in a while, but I learned the 'technique' at a job where they were big on it.

Given plated vector board, you can isolate pads for an IC, but it takes a certain touch to do.

    Gads!· That's an expensive tool!· 60+$ for a cutter.· Me thinks I will keep to my 50 cent 5mm drill-bit and strip boards. :-)

Vector sells them in the USA. I have a pile of their part 8022. It's about 3" square. No idea what that is in French units. smile.gif
