Ipod repair

Don't troll me, this isn't parallax related, be they did say they would tolerate other topics.

I've been doing a lot of ipod repair on the side. I've noticed a trend with the Ipod Classic model. They often work one second and are completely dead the next. The only way to solve this is to replace the whole logic board. Which is at least $70.00. people are willing to do this, but I'd rather really solve the problem.

I'm guessing there is an inductor or fuse that gets blown. I don't have a schematic and apple isn't about to help. so I was wondering if anyone wanted to take a look at a couple and see if there is a real solution.

just to clarify, I've seen this on at least 3 ipods. after testing, all parts are good except the main logic board. which has no signs of life at all. all 3 ipods stopped while in use, the screen went all white and then nothing.

thanks

Dave

Dave, my experience has been (with three units all close together) that they're working fine and suddenly one day you turn it on and get a sad face logo on the screen. I still have two of those units. Dontated the third to someone who said they knew how to fix it, but they never got back to me to say if they did and what the fix was.

I can actually fix the sad logo issue. (most of the time) it's usually a bad hard drive. when these units died it literally was one second they work the next they are completely dead. like a fuse blew. The screen shows nothing, no sound, no clicking. that's why I believe in this case it's something that should be fixable.

I'd be happy to send one to someone if they wanted to take a look at it,

Sounds like a dead voltage regulator?
(I doubt there's a classic fuse in them)
