Understanding Signals - out of date

What's the deal with the state of the Understanding Signals text? It is incompatible with the provided software under either of the last two versions of Windows (Vista and 7)
Basically the text is for version 4 of the software, while only 5 will run on Vista and 7. There is some mention of this on the Understanding Signals page, but this was bought as a gift for me by someone who would have no idea what that meant. At this point I'm feeling a bit gypped having had to translate between the text and the new gui, only to realize I cannot even do some actions referenced in the text.
Is it likely we'll ever see an update to the text? Or the software?

Here is a simple fix: http://www.virtualbox.org/
Download virtual box(it's free) and install Windows XP as a virtual machine and it will work just fine. I run it this way on my windows 7 machine.
