Hey guys was cleaning up I have a bunch of old PCMCIA adapters some 36K modems some 10/100 nic card and even a 14K modem Oh also some Dec Ethernet and a Token ring can anyone use any or all of these please just ask I will be happy to send them off I hate throwing away
stuff you always find out someone needed it. I also have a bunch of IBM 10/100 Nic cards for PCI buss and a few Token ring old IBM buss Lets see some ISA and PCI, VGA boards they are old but you could use the connectors and ram chips if you can de-solder.
Some old SCSI Hard drives 10gig, A few IBM 486 and 386 motherboards . I am keeping the power supplies unless you live nearby they are just to heavy to ship they are the really big older ones.
I still have a few left of the Dell 20 inch monitors not flat screens giant tube type. a bunch of 256K Dram chips 16 Pin dip for the old real old IBM mother boards they are the Hitachi parts Some 2764 eprom, 27256, and 271024 just a few of those left.
Oh I also have a working very small 10 in black and white VGA monitor. And 2,, 20 inch HP flat screen monitors. They are bad I tried to fix them but one needs a main board and the other one my need one two I did try to make one working unit out of the 2 but no luck you are welcome to them but just wanted to be clear it might cost a bit to fix them. All the boards have very tiny SMT stuff.
If I think of anything else I will post it, please don't be shy everyone and anyone is welcome to any of this stuff.

Is the 256K Dram pc133? If so I can use it. I also wouldn't mind a hard drive if it had windows on it. Need money for shipping?
Nevermind, 256k doesn't sound like pc133. I'm still interested in a hard drive though.

Hey--is any of this stuff left? I am interested in anything that has parts I can desolder and possibly use...

How about those mother boards? Do they have the ports or the processors on them still?

@Vaati

Looking for ports from motherboards? I've got tons of this scrap.

We should startup a roving box of junk using the fixed rate boxes from USPS.
I'd love to get this going. I'm pretty sure I could start a box and make you
the first stop. As long as you agree to keep it moving?

Anyone else game?

Rules are simple.

* You get one week to keep the box.
* You need add to something to the box. (and take what you want of course)
* Then the contents get transfered to an identical box. (free from your post office)
and shipped out!

The box I have in mind costs $10.70 to ship. And you can get the postman to bring you empty boxes.

Great idea. I'm in! What kind of things would be okay to add? discreet components? old functional EPROMS (I have 33 27C020 CDIPs that I'm never going to use)?

I'd say same rules as the freebie table at the expo.

If it is useful for robots, propeller, or basic stamp then drop it in the box.

I could do this. If someone would have use for a printer power supply, ZIP and CD drives, demo board that's half gone, etc.

I also have an additional idea. People with online stores could put a full page ad for their store in the box, as long as they put one functional product from it in there. That wouldn't take up much space and would be good for buisnesses to get their names out. I would put in 25 Mini dins, 200 LEDs, etc. for the chance to adveritise. Just an idea.

At this rate we are going to have a Free Parts Bus that goes from town to town :) . Maybe we can even put a special little jingle on the bus like an ice cream truck so I can get excited and run outside with PC boards and cables in my hand to trade. haha.

Seriously though, I would love to be on the list too. Sounds like a great idea. Do they have flat rate refrigerator size boxes? Lol.

I'll start putting together the initial box.

@microcontrolled: I need your address so that I can ship it out. PM me.
My deadline will be one week. Monday.

I'll also start a new thread in the Sandbox for this when the box ships to micro
so that others can get in the list.

I will in a while, but first, what exactly might go into this box? I think I'll throw an old SNES controller in there for Vaati. This sounds good, all you have to do is pay shipping and you get so much. :-D

I don't think that anyone would want to pay double to ship it there, so you would have to pay the difference in shipping......

What if after it made a good lap around the USA, it could be sent across the pond and then makes it back to the USA when done. Even if it takes a year it would not be bad idea. Ill eat the shipping once to share toys with friends :) .

I vote for having a log that gets sent with it, so we can see all the places it has been.

i think this is a great idea, i've got some stuff to go in the box too. some discreet components mostly, some maxim ds series chips too. i've got a couple of allen bradley plc's, (yeah, i know, not parallax related) micrologix 1000 and a 1400(?) i think, not sure if anyone is interested in them as they are (working) or use them for parts.. ill have to dig around and see what all i do have.

If you're lacking a place to track all of this you could use the For Sale & Wanted board on the Savage Circuits website. I may even have some stuff to throw in myself at various times.

Agreed! We'll setup box tracking on Savage Circuits.

I've already got it started! Will be ready to ship to Microcontrolled by the end of the week.

I'll create a list based on the responses here.

Anyone got issue with publicly posting their addresses? It would help speed the box along.

If anyone does have issue with posting their address publicly what I can do is create a private forum for just those participating in this endeavor. Only those in that list would be able to see the addresses. OBC, let me know what's going to happen and I will make sure it gets implemented by tonight. I will also make you the moderator of that forum as well.

just thinking out loud here, but wouldn't it be neat to have one of those gps package trackers (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8755) in the box also, to document where all the box has been. i think so anyway.

@OBC
Are you gonna post info on this thread on where to throw our addresses in the hat?

I will second what kf4ixm said. I wonder what the battery life is though? Who is going to be the one to get it and make it part of the initial box? Can we take up donations or something?

after more thought, if some people do not want their exact location to be known, maybe theres something in the setup on that package tracker that you could set so that the coordinates saved/logged are just like -97.2 instead of like -97.23844, to just track city/town location.

What happened to the idea of a paper log file and pen? :) Engineers! :)

I'll enclose an envelope which will contain a paper log sheet.
It will contain fields for name, city, state and a comment field.

You can list the treasures you found for yourself, and those you added.
You'll also want to report back to the forum.

Name... Hmmm...

How about the Roving Box of Electronics Junk? Anyone got some suggestions?
