I am looking into building a robot that can sort black and red lego blocks. I see that there are a lot of stuff on the web for the lego mindstorm but am specifically looking to make one using the basic stamp and my boe bot kit. Just looking for some guidance as to what is the best sensor to use to be able to tell apart black from red and that works well with the stamp. I appreciate any advice. Thanks.

You could use the Parallax ColorPAL or Color Sensor. An alternative would be 2 0r 3 ADNS2620 optical mouse chips with color filters in front of them. They would give you an 18x18 pixel image to work with. If you only want to sort black and red you would only need 2 of them and one filter.

Actually, with the filter, you would only need one ADNS2620 sensor.· The black is always going to be black, regardless of the filter.

Red will show up as red and the others should be some where in between.

If you are going to use other colors, some of the darker ones will get confused with the black because of the filter.· Lighter ones might not be detected at all.
