Possible shortages?

Hi,

My group and I are using the BSSX with the Super Stamp Carrier. We were trying to control the Boe-Bot with a PS2 Controller and Wireless Force 2 Controller, which I had gotten to work. However, without my knowledge, one person was playing around with a LED, putting it against random pins that were previously soldered into the board. For some reason, the Force Controller and the power supply (which our teacher is making us use instead of batteries) no longer work. sad.gif

Can anyone tell me what happened? Also, is there anything that I can do to fix them?

Thanks :) I greatly appreciate your answers :)

Gee abcd it sounds like a short the only thing I can come up with is trouble shoot my friend ,, break out the meter and start checking look at the power supply if its dead it might have fuses most for the wall warts actually have fuses of course you have to hack them apart and don't forget its 110 in there so be careful

Well I guess I can just simply replace the power supply. The good thing is the outlet still works; I tried something else and it worked. My main concern is the Force PS2 Controller...any ideas?

check resistance between power rails. if 0 and you can not find the short then hook up a high current(30A works great) power supply to the rails and look for hot spots*

*Before hooking up power supply set the voltage to the voltage of the rail and current to 0. Slowly ramp current up until you find hot spot or the short bursts.

Are you describing the procedure for a power supply for a computer? I meant the outlet to Boe-Bot DC power. (sorry, I don't know much about electronics :s)

that is a procedure to find pescky shorts. it works by heating up and some times destroying the short.

I do not have a boe-bot or know anything about it but sounds like you may have a short. that can be found out easily with a multimeter. However finding and fixing shorts can be dificult and time consuming. This method works quickly.
